Baseball Game Preview: San Fernando Tigers vs. Kennedy Cougars

San Fernando is 2-8 against Kennedy since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. San Fernando is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

If San Fernando beats Kennedy with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Tigers walked away with an 8-3 win over Golden Valley on Saturday.

Matthew Carlos and Alex Torres were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Carlos tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Torres pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Carlos got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, while Torres got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Emiliano Salazar was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Kennedy had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against South Gate by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday. That four run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

The team relied heavily on Andrew Aguirre, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Sebastian Castellanos also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

San Fernando's record now sits at 10-8. As for Kennedy, their record is now 4-13.

San Fernando took their victory against Kennedy in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 11-4 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
