Bloomington gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the Danville Vikings to the tune of 40-7. Given the Purple Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Vikings are ranked 273rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyveon Chestnut went supernova, rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. Those 100 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyontae Hamilton, who threw for 147 yards and two TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes.
Bloomington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cooper Childers and Jordan Norton.
Looking ahead, Bloomington is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Normal University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Danville, they will host Urbana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
