Football Game Preview: Wetumka Chieftains vs. Cyril Pirates + How To Watch

The Wetumka Chieftains are taking a road trip to challenge the Cyril Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wetumka has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three matchups.

If Wetumka beats Cyril with 62 points on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Chieftains blew past Alex 62-26 on Friday.

Dwayne Lowe had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 233 yards and six TDs on only 13 carries. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 13 rushing touchdowns on the season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wetumka was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 474 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cyril faced Weleetka in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Pirates had to suffer through a 58-30 loss at the hands of the Outlaws. The game marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Cyril saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremih Alberty rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown.

The win got Wetumka back to even at 3-3. As for Cyril, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Wetumka was dealt a bruising 44-12 defeat at the hands of Cyril when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
