Football Game Preview: Pasco Pirates vs. Countryside Cougars

The Pasco Pirates will face off against the Countryside Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasco is looking for their season's first victory.

Pasco's offense might be in the hot seat on Monday considering what happened against Land O' Lakes on Monday. They took a blow against the Gators, falling 34-0. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 396th, while the Gators are ranked 22nd).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Countryside, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They breezed past Clearwater to the tune of 28-0 on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 22 points or more this season.

The critical scores for Countryside came from Jannon Welch, Genessis Godinez-Gomez, Julia Smith, and Nyarai Wilson.

Countryside's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ava Jones. She is becoming a predictor of Countryside's success: when she posts at least two sacks the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when she doesn't). Godinez-Gomez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Countryside's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Pasco, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
