Preview: Toll Gate Titans vs. Johnston Panthers
The Toll Gate Titans will head out on the road to take on the Johnston Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Toll Gate has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Johnston will arrive with nine straight victories.
While Toll Gate couldn't quite beat Times Squared Academy on Saturday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 60-point loss they were dealt on Friday. Toll Gate fell just short of Times Squared Academy by a score of 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Toll Gate has suffered yet this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jack Colvin, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Dylan Perreault was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 20 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Johnston faced South Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Johnston secured a 66-62 W over South Kingstown on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Toll Gate's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Johnston, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Toll Gate barely slipped by Johnston when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 66-65. Will Toll Gate repeat their success, or does Johnston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
