Basketball Game Preview: Cathedral Academy Generals vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

The Cathedral Academy Generals will be taking part in a tournament against the Lugoff-Elgin Demons at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Cathedral Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Cathedral Academy saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 37-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Johns Country Day.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Raven Williams, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Jackson, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Lugoff-Elgin beat Cardinal Newman 57-53 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Demons.

Cathedral Academy better focus on containing Jordan Samuel and Teryn Hobson as the pair were huge in Lugoff-Elgin's win. Samuel earned 23 points along with six assists and three steals, while Hobson dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Samuel has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Manuel, who had four points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Cathedral Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
