The Glencoe Crimson Tide will take on the South Salem Saxons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Glencoe has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with five straight losses, while South Salem will come in with 16 straight victories.
Friday just wasn't the day for Glencoe's offense. They lost 13-0 to Newberg on Friday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Crimson Tide were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, South Salem got the win against Westview on Friday by a conclusive 11-2. Considering the Saxons have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kellen Bowman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, South Salem let Kevin Semm and Josh Feik run wild. Semm went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Feik went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Feik has posted since back in March. Sawyer Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
South Salem hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matches.
South Salem's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Glencoe, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Glencoe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Salem struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
