Basketball Game Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Anacostia Indians

The Coolidge Colts will square off against the Anacostia Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Anacostia will be up against a hot Coolidge squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. Coolidge really took it to Cardozo for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-5 win. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-3.

Meanwhile, Anacostia faced Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Anacostia simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering 68-12. The Indians' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Anacostia's win came from a few key players Coolidge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nayjah Duvall, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Anacostia is 7-3 when Duvall posts ten or more assists, but 0-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ta'Shaun Robinson, who went 9 for 15 on her way to 22 points.

Anacostia was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Coolidge's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.2 points per game. As for Anacostia, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season.

Everything went Coolidge's way against Anacostia in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Coolidge made off with a 48-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
