Basketball Recap: Germantown Falls Short Against Ranked Hoover + How To Watch

Germantown is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Hoover. The Mavericks fell 39-30 to the Buccaneers. The Mavericks have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Samuel Funches, who posted 11 points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Alfred Stokes, who had eight points.

Jackson Sheffield produced another solid performance going 5-for-6 to rack up 11 points and three blocks for Hoover. Riley Kent was another key player, putting up eight points.

Germantown's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Hoover, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Germantown will wrap up 2025 with a road trip to face off against Meridian at 12:20 p.m. on the 30th. Hoover will take on Shelbyville Central in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
