Softball Game Preview: Steele Comets vs. Avon Eagles

The Steele Comets are taking a road trip to square off against the Avon Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Steele nor Avon posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Steele blew Elyria out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Elyria got their revenge. The Comets fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Comets have suffered against the Pioneers since May 16, 2019.

Meanwhile, Avon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Midview.

Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jocelin Ochs, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Averie Reichert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Steele, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Steele came up short against Avon when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 5-2. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
