Football Recap: Hudson Mcguire's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greenfield over Jasper

If Greenfield was riding high fresh off their 66-46 takedown of Schuyler County last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats lost 60-36 to the Jasper Eagles on Friday. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Eagles since Friday.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hudson McGuire, who picked up 96 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 118 yards on only 13 carries. McGuire also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles in addition to snagging two interceptions. Drake Morrison was another key signal caller, throwing for 179 yards and five TDs.

Greenfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of McGuire and Ryan Hansen.

Jasper's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Lehman, who rushed for 180 yards and five scores. The Eagles are 2-1 when Lehman posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. Colt Clements was in the mix as well, providing Jasper with two touchdowns.

Greenfield's record is now 2-4. As for Jasper, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenfield will square off against Drexel/Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenfield will be up against Drexel/Miami's rather soft defense (which has allowed 46.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jasper, they will face off against Archie at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Whirlwinds have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
