Football Recap: Barrow Falls Short Against Ranked Eagle River

Barrow faced Eagle River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Whalers were beaten by the Wolves 42-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Whalers of the 50-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2018.

A big part of Eagle River's victory came down to the chemistry between Brody Wetzel and his top target David Shipley. Wetzel rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Shipley gained 71 total yards and a touchdown.

Barrow now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Eagle River, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barrow will square off against Kodiak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. This will be the Whalers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Eagle River, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Soldotna at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
