Basketball Preview: West Greene Buffaloes vs. Washburn Pirates
The West Greene Buffaloes are on the road again on Monday and plays the Washburn Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two weeks ago, West Greene was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-59 to the Longhorns.
Meanwhile, Washburn came tearing into Friday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Cosby as Washburn made off with a 70-49 victory. Washburn has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 21 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Washburn to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ebany Hill, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Hill is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Saylor Clay was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
West Greene has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Washburn, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
West Greene came up short against the Pirates in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 47-42. Thankfully for West Greene, Braelyn Coffey (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
