Basketball Recap: Tolleson Takes a Loss

Tolleson lost against Yuma Catholic back in December of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Tolleson Wolverines opened the new year with a less-than-successful 67-60 defeat to the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 25th).

Yuma Catholic was led to victory by Sir Stokes and Noe Zamudio. Stokes went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and seven steals, while Zamudio posted 17 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Stokes is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Santiago Vazquez Lima, who put up seven points.

Tolleson's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Yuma Catholic, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Tolleson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-46 defeat against ALA - Ironwood on the 4th. As for Yuma Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-52 victory against Westview on the 4th.
