Recap: Richland Northeast Cavaliers vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 8 on the offensive boards, a fact the Richland Northeast Cavaliers proved on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Lugoff-Elgin 51-49. This was payback for Richland Northeast, who suffered a 50-41 loss the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Jaylen Tillman, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. William Wilson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Several Demons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savon Jenkins, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Nigel Chivers, who scored 14 points.
Richland Northeast's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Richland Northeast will be playing in front of their home fans against Irmo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: AJ Brand and Wilson. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will head out on the road to face off against Ridge View at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ridge View has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 923 points over their last 14 matchups.
