Basketball Recap: Justin Godwin Key Part of a Team Effort in Indians Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wetumpka walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 victory over the Russell County Warriors on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since January 6, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wetumpka to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justin Godwin, who almost dropped a double-double with ten assists and nine steals. Godwin is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tom Suddith, who posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven blocks.

Wetumpka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Wetumpka's victory bumped their record up to 21-5. As for Russell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-8.

Looking ahead, Wetumpka will face off against McGill-Toolen at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. McGill-Toolen has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Russell County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
