Football Recap: Milpitas Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Milpitas was feeling good fresh off their 42-14 takedown of Piedmont Hills on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the Los Gatos Wildcats by a score of 12-10 on Wednesday. Despite 93 more yards than the Wildcats, the Trojans couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Even if they lost, Milpitas' defense still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Sakura Shimizu and Reesejilian Matsuo, who racked up all seven sacks between them. Matsuo has been hot recently, having posted two or more sacks the last four times she's played.

Among those leading the charge was Sophie Riese, who picked up 134 receiving yards and one TD. Those 134 receiving yards gave her a new career-high.

Milpitas' defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-4. As for Los Gatos, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Milpitas and Los Gatos should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Trojans will challenge Gunn at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (77 vs. 305). Meanwhile, Los Gatos (ranked 103rd) will meet Independence (ranked 480th) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
