Softball Recap: Paint Valley Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Paint Valley is still undefeated this season after their contest against North Adams on Wednesday, but North Adams came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Bearcats skirted past the Green Devils 7-5. While the Bearcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Kasarah Cantrell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up five earned runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Stauffer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two stolen bases. Stauffer is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Kyla Littler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Paint Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season. As for North Adams, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paint Valley will head out to face off against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Adams, they will face off against Whiteoak at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Green Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
