Softball Recap: Aragon Dons vs. Carlmont Scots
After flying high against Sequoia last Tuesday, Aragon came back down to earth. The Aragon Dons fell victim to a tough 15-3 defeat at the hands of the Carlmont Scots on Thursday. Aragon has not had much luck with Carlmont recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Rae D'Amato was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (she also didn't allow any walks). D'Amato has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. D'Amato was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
D'Amato wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Are Makropoulos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Makropoulos has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.
Like Aragon, Carlmont also got a great game from a two-way player: Kathrine Fung. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Fung was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Carlmont got a massive performance out of Molly Brand, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Izzy Won was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Aragon now has a losing record at 7-8-1. As for Carlmont, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Aragon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Burlingame at 4:00 p.m. on April 9th. Aragon is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Carlmont, they will challenge Willow Glen at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
