Chanute had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Friday. They came out on top against the Iola Mustangs by a score of 54-44. Given the Blue Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Mustangs are ranked 179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Iola lost, don't look at Cortland Carson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Kaufman, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Chanute's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points over those games. As for Iola, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chanute will take on Fort Scott at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chanute is facing Fort Scott at the right time seeing as Fort Scott is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Iola, they will face off against Prairie View at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Iola is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.
