Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Lions vs. Providence Day Chargers
After a string of seven wins, the Covenant Day Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 62-55 to Providence Day. Covenant Day was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Covenant Day still got an impressive performance from Michael Marcus Jr., who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Marcus Jr. has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Patrick Penosky, who scored 11 points.
Covenant Day's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Providence Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Hawks at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Charlotte Latin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Lions are ranked 17th). As for Providence Day, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Cannon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Chargers like a good challenge.
