Softball Recap: Northern Wins Going Away Against Mcdonough

Northern never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the McDonough Rams. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Miranda Twigg looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Russell, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Jewett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Northern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Northern pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for McDonough, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern will venture away from home to take on St. Charles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McDonough, they will head out to challenge Patuxent at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
