Basketball Recap: Haywood Comes Up Short

Haywood suffered their closest defeat since January 17th on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Fayette Ware Wildcats by a score of 62-59. The Tomcats haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Despite the loss, Haywood still got an impressive performance from Jaybyon Snipe, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 39% of Haywood's points, marking the third time in a row Snipe has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ja'Malachi Bond, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 11 points.

Tarecous Stevens was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 15 boards for Fayette Ware. Stevens is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last 14 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quaylan Hampton, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Haywood's loss dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Fayette Ware, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-5.

Haywood has already played their next matchup, a 68-43 win against South Gibson on the 1st. As for Fayette Ware, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-55 victory against Obion County on the 1st.
