Baseball Recap: Austin Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Austin won the last time they faced West Morgan and things went their way on Saturday too. The Black Bears blew past the Rebels 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Black Bears, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Levi Morgan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trey Harville, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Austin is undefeated when Harville posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Owen Prater, who went 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Austin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Austin's third in a row) raised their record to 14-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for West Morgan, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-18 record.

Looking ahead, Austin will square off against East Limestone at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Black Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Morgan, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Good Hope at 6:30 p.m. on April 7.
