Britton-Hecla suffers sixth straight loss on the road

After soaring to 62 points the game before, the Britton-Hecla Braves were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. The New Year welcomed they with a 57-19 whooping from Great Plains Lutheran. While losing is never fun, Britton-Hecla can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Great Plains Lutheran is ranked 49th).

Great Plains Lutheran got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Rubendall out in front who scored 17 points. Rubendall also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Alex Heil was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.

Britton-Hecla's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Great Plains Lutheran, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Britton-Hecla will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilmot at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilmot is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Great Plains Lutheran, they will head out on the road to face off against Estelline/Hendricks at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
