Softball Recap: Vanguard Find Success

Vanguard hadn't done well against South Sumter recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Knights came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 4-1. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Raiders on April 1st, they had to take a 6-3 defeat.

Carlee Dodge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

At the plate, Mia Donken was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allison Eason, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Vanguard is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for South Sumter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Vanguard does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Sumter, they will be playing at home against Nature Coast Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
