Softball Recap: Orange Comes Up Short

Orange extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-5. They came up short against the West Geauga Wolverines, falling 19-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 18-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Orange saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Saks, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Kelsey Lewis was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for West Geauga, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Considering they have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On West Geauga's side, Lely Percassi was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Percassi has posted since back in May of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Morgan Atwara was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Peyton Gambatese also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Geauga beat Orange by a score of 13-1 later that day.
