Baseball Game Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. San Marcos Knights

For the second straight game, Torrey Pines will face off against San Marcos. The Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Torrey Pines is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

San Marcos hit Torrey Pines with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-3 to the Knights, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

For San Marcos' part, Brody Layne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Colton Walker was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Farrell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: San Marcos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

San Marcos is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Torrey Pines, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Torrey Pines has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Marcos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts.
