League recap: Croatan scores huge upset over Clinton

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Croatan, who took down 176th ranked Clinton, 14-6.

The Cougars were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 2A East Central. Croatan beat the Dark Horses 14-6 earlier in the week.

Swansboro's dynamic duo of Chris Phipps and Markuise Hemby proved tough for Northside to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Phipps threw for 29 yards and Hemby had 18 yards receiving. Chandler Harrington helped Swansboro's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.

Dion Jones was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 143 yards as South Lenoir lost to the Monarchs. Jaquan Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 78 yards on the ground.

Swansboro's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Phipps has thrown for 244 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Harrington has three catches for 68 yards. Deandre Thompkins leads the league in rushing with 638 yards.

A big matchup in 2A East Central this week will be when Northside takes on David Perry's team. Bob Eason's team is currently in first, while the Cougars are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Monarchs take on Croatan. Northside has allowed 51 points this season, while the Cougars have given up 66.

The Monarchs extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Swansboro, 38-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
