Basketball Game Preview: Horizon Hawks vs. Broomfield Eagles

Horizon is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Broomfield is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Horizon Hawks take on the Broomfield Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Last Wednesday, Horizon got the win against Silver Creek by a conclusive 60-35. That looming 60-35 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

It was another big night for Kaitlin Schumann, who went 9 for 15 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. Another player making a difference was Alexis Arakaki, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points.

Horizon was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Broomfield made easy work of Frederick on Tuesday and carried off a 46-23 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Horizon is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.9 points per game. As for Broomfield, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Horizon didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Broomfield in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory.
