Football Game Preview: Caprock Longhorns vs. Tascosa Rebels

Caprock hasn't had much luck against Tascosa recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Longhorns will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. Caprock will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Caprock is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Lubbock 38-7. The win continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the Westerners: they've now won six in a row.

Caprock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Juan De La Cruz led the charge by rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, while also throwing for 111 yards and one TD. De La Cruz got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 77 yards. Another back making a difference was Ernesto Alvarado, who rushed for 100 yards on only 11 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Caprock was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lubbock only rushed for 137.

Caprock didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Malikai Carrasco and Adrian Apodaca. Apodaca got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last three matchups, Tascosa finally came back down to earth on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 24-6 to Abilene. The game marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Caprock's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Tascosa, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Caprock was taken down by Tascosa 42-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Rebels' Coltyn Fulton, who rushed for 183 yards and four scores on only 15 carries.
