Baseball Game Preview: St. Martin Yellow Jackets vs. Ocean Springs Greyhounds

For the second straight game, St. Martin will face off against Ocean Springs. St. Martin will host Ocean Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, St. Martin didn't have quite enough to beat Ocean Springs and fell 6-4. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

For Ocean Springs' part, Jack Jordan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Jordan has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Adam Clower was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cannon Hensarling, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Ocean Springs hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Ocean Springs is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. St. Martin's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
