Softball Recap: Okaw Valley Timberwolves vs. Mattoon Greenwave

After flying high against Heritage last Monday, Okaw Valley came back down to earth. The Okaw Valley Timberwolves suffered a tough 14-3 defeat at the hands of the Mattoon Greenwave on Thursday.

Okaw Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Totten, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Totten is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played.

On Mattoon's side, Hanna Griffin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Alexia Murdock was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Whitley, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Okaw Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Mattoon, their victory bumped their record up to 3-12.

Okaw Valley will be playing at home against Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mattoon, they will head out on the road to square off against Taylorville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
