Basketball Recap: Rome Takes a Loss

Rome was the 57-55 winner over Alexander when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Rome Wolves fell to the Alexander Cougars 41-36.

Despite the loss, Rome still got an impressive performance from Jermiya Winston, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. What's more, Winston racked up six steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Tristahja (mo) Slocum was another key player, putting up four points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rome smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Alexander found their leader in sophomore Nimah Ibidunni, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Ibidunni has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabella Italiano, who posted ten points.

Rome's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Alexander, their victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8.

Rome wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 36-35 loss against South Paulding on the 15th. As for Alexander, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-52 win against New Manchester on the 15th.
