Softball Game Preview: Poland Seminary Bulldogs vs. Mathews Mustangs

The Poland Seminary Bulldogs will challenge the Mathews Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Poland Seminary has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lakeview hit Poland Seminary with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Poland Seminary lost 14-6 to Lakeview. Poland Seminary hasn't had much luck with Lakeview recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Mathews entered their tilt with Grand Valley on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let Grand Valley get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Mathews might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Mathews' win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Poland Seminary, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.

Poland Seminary couldn't quite finish off Mathews in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
