Softball Game Preview: Unity Christian Crusaders vs. Spring Lake Lakers

The Unity Christian Crusaders are taking a road trip to take on the Spring Lake Lakers at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Spring Lake will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Unity Christian extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Crusaders were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Vicksburg.

Meanwhile, Spring Lake never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against Ludington as they made off with a 15-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lakers.

Khloe Melinn made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tessa Britt, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Cheyenne Lyons was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Spring Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Spring Lake now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Unity Christian, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Everything went Unity Christian's way against Spring Lake when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Unity Christian made off with an 18-1 win. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Lakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
