Baseball Game Preview: Sanford Spartans vs. Cheverus Stags

Sanford hasn't had much luck against Cheverus recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Stags at 4:30 p.m. Neither Sanford nor Cheverus posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Sanford fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Marshwood on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, Cheverus didn't have quite enough to beat Bonny Eagle on Wednesday and fell 3-2.

Sanford's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Cheverus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Sanford took their victory against Cheverus in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Stags have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
