Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Gators vs. Baldwin Fighting Highlanders

Gateway hasn't had much luck against Baldwin recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Gators will take on the Fighting Highlanders at 4:00 p.m.

Friday just wasn't the day for Gateway's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Armstrong on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Christian Vagni was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gateway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jon Saunders, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Saunders has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Baldwin put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Blackhawk.

Baldwin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Gateway suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Baldwin in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
