Softball Game Preview: Arroyo Knights vs. Marshall Eagles

Arroyo has gone a perfect 10-0 against Marshall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Knights will host the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Arroyo has four straight victories, Marshall has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Arroyo made easy work of Rosemead and carried off a 12-2 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Emily Rubalcava was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Rubalcava was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

Rubalcava wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hailie Espinoza, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. Another was Alina Linn, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Arroyo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Marshall was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against South El Monte, falling 16-1.

Arroyo pushed their record up to 14-9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.

Everything went Arroyo's way against Marshall in their previous matchup back in April, as Arroyo made off with a 23-2 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
