Basketball Recap: Howard Casterlow's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nansemond-Suffolk Academy over Virginia Academy

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's tournament run continued when they took on Virginia Academy on Sunday. The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints lost 89-64 to the Virginia Academy Patriots. The game marked the Saints' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Howard Casterlow, who posted 11 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Madden Gilliatt, who earned 13 points and seven rebounds.

Virginia Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rondel Jones Jr. out in front who had 24 points. The match was Jones Jr.'s fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Rochester, who put up 18 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Virginia Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-55 win against Brunswick Academy on the 11th. As for Virginia Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-71 victory against Fairfax Christian on the 10th.
