The Fort Frye Cadets will challenge the St. Marys Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Frye is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Fort Frye took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Barnesville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Fort Frye had just enough and edged out Barnesville 7-6.
Elle Casto spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Fort Frye let Taylor Hendershot and Jayden Brown run wild. Hendershot went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Brown scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Brown also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Marys put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Williamstown with a sharp 10-1 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
St. Marys got a massive performance out of Ella Bullman, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Bullman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cali Masters, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
St. Marys kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.
St. Marys' victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Frye, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both Fort Frye and St. Marys just can't seem to miss. Fort Frye has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like St. Marys struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
