Football Recap: De Leon Piles Up the Points Against Hico

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Muenster, De Leon was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They really took it to the Hico Tigers for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-27 win. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

De Leon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Heston Jobe, who threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Jobe is becoming a predictor of the Bearcats' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Colt Schwertner helped Jobe out on the ground, rushing for 66 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries.

De Leon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Bryce Burkeen led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

De Leon's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Hico, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-2 record.

De Leon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 58-0 win against Coleman on the 17th. As for Hico, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-27 loss against Bangs on the 17th.
