League recap: St. Mary's Ryken climbs in state rankings with win

St. Mary's Ryken moved up to 123 from 154 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Freelance. St. Mary's Ryken climbed the ranks as a result of a 38-24 win over Bishop Ireton.

Silver Oak Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to eighth in the league. Earlier in the week, Silver Oak Academy triumphed over Red Lion Christian Academy 8-0.

Northern's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Broadwater threw for three yards and Meshach Metz had three yards receiving. On the ground Jeremy Bender chipped in 127 yards.

Eastern Christian Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Honey Badgers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. David Sills has thrown for 719 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Daikiel Shorts has 14 catches for 307 yards. Wendell Smallwood leads the league in rushing with 244 yards.

A big matchup in Freelance this week will be when Bob Harmon's team takes on Bishop Walsh. At the moment, St. Mary's Ryken is in seventh, while the Spartans are in second.

Bishop Walsh extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Notre Dame, 58-14. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
