Basketball Recap: Miami-Yoder Takes a Loss

Miami-Yoder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 50-36 fall against the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles. While the Buffaloes didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 11-6 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Miami-Yoder lost, don't look at Jesus Cruz. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points along with eight boards and four steals. Cruz has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Hume, who put up seven points and five rebounds.

Leading Evangel Christian Academy to victory were Anderson Schultz and Nate Lucia. Schultz scored 19 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while Lucia dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Lucia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jax Castro was another key player, putting up ten points.

Miami-Yoder's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Evangel Christian Academy, their record now sits at 11-6.

Looking ahead, Miami-Yoder and Hi-Plains will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The Buffaloes will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.76 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they will head out to take on Custer County on Monday. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
