Basketball Recap: Indian River Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Allison Lamora and Layla Whyte

If Indian River was riding high fresh off their 57-30 takedown of Immaculate Heart Central last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indian River Wolves fell 52-39 to the General Brown Lions on Saturday. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 44-33.

Indian River's loss came despite strong showings from Layla Whyte and Allison LaMora. Whyte posted nine points and eight rebounds, while LaMora dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. LaMora has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lillian Walsh, who scored nine points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Indian River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 43 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Indian River's record is now 15-4. As for General Brown, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Indian River will head out on the road to face off against Fayetteville-Manlius at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. General Brown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
