Somerset dropped their record down to 11-15 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Whitley County Colonels by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colonels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in March.
Somerset saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kole Grundy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run.
As for Whitley County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.
On Whitley County's side, Christian Wilson tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Wilson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
Coincidentally, Somerset and Whitley County will both be playing Adair County the next time they take the field. The Briar Jumpers will head out to face the Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Colonels will play them later in the day, at 4:00 p.m.
