Despite offers from Duke and 24 other college basketball programs, highly touted hoops recruit Joe Girard III is continuing his football career this fall.

Girard has some serious talent on the gridiron as well, throwing for 278 yards and accounting for six touchdowns in a 43-14 season-opening win for Glens Falls (N.Y.) over Schuylerville.

He completed 10 of 14 passes, returned a punt 46 yards and also played defense in the rematch of last year's Section II championship game. Pete Tobey detailed the game for The Post-Star.

Basketball is where Girard has really made his name, however. He is New York's all-time boys basketball scoring leader, with 3,306 career points entering his senior season.

Last season, the first team Junior MaxPreps All-American averaged a tick over 50 points per game while leading the Indians to a 20-3 record.

The sharpshooting guard announced his final six schools June 17 with Boston College, Duke, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Syracuse making the cut.
