Baseball Recap: Platte Canyon Has No Trouble Against Arrupe Jesuit

There's no place like home for Platte Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Arrupe Jesuit Generals on Monday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Huskies this season.

Jacob Haase and Nathan Laabs made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Haase pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Laabs pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Haase a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Haase got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Laabs went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Laabs has become a key player for Platte Canyon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Colton Shirley and Jerod Horta did most of the damage at the plate: Shirley went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run, while Horta got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Shirley has posted since back in March. Christian Walters was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Platte Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arrupe Jesuit only posted a batting average of .118.

Platte Canyon's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-9. As for Arrupe Jesuit, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Platte Canyon will head out on the road to take on Englewood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.31 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Arrupe Jesuit, they will be playing at home against Bennett at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
