Sunnyside is a perfect 4-0 against Tanque Verde since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Sunnyside Blue Devils will square off against the Tanque Verde Hawks at 10:30 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Sunnyside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over Mountain View on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Mountain Lions: they've now won six in a row.
ARMANDO BEJARANO tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on MICHEL MUNIZ, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. LUCAS MATA was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Tanque Verde made easy work of Rincon/University on Wednesday and carried off a 17-5 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 11 runs or more this season.
Santino Celani made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Liam Brunell was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Tanque Verde: the team is 4-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Walker, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Sunnyside's record now sits at 7-2. As for Tanque Verde, their record now sits at 5-2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sunnyside has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tanque Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sunnyside was able to grind out a solid victory over Tanque Verde when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 3-0. Will Sunnyside repeat their success, or does Tanque Verde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
