Summit and Glenwood Springs are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Demons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Summit is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Rifle with a sharp 24-14 victory last Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Summit let Hogan Tobias and Matty Misch run wild. Tobias got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Misch got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Tobias has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gus Bradford, who went 4-for-6 with two RBI and one run.
Summit hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rifle struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Glenwood Springs entered their tilt with Battle Mountain on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Huskies 12-5.
Grady Aguirre was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Aguirre was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jackson Irving and Noah Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Irving went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Smith got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. Evan Neuman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Glenwood Springs pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Summit, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Summit has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glenwood Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Summit took their win against Glenwood Springs in their previous meeting on April 8th by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
